Road Trip to Oregon Part 2: The Beach 2

Day 5

After seeing people clamming at low tide in the bay in front of our rental house the day before, Andy decided that we should give it a try the next day.

We headed down to the historic waterfront street and visited a couple of fishing gear shops getting the low-down on the clamming scene. Andy rented a shovel for the next day, and bought a shellfish license. Then we stayed down on the waterfront and spent lunch at the Rogue's public house. After naptime we went for a walk to the South Jetty because the sun was finally coming out.

Day 6

Today was a very busy day. We went clamming at low tide.

Andy could not wait and waded through chest deep water to get to the sand spit. Joe waited about 15min then waded across in hip deep water. I was a little too chicken to go in when it was that deep, but my mom was telling us from the upper porch to go around to the side because there was a shallow sand spit there. I decided to give it a try & began wading. It was only as deep as mid-thigh, and I was even able to keep my shorts dry. After I made it out to the exposed sand spit, Jamie, Dad, & Jennifer followed me. We then spent the next hour digging for clams. It was super fun. We caught 23 soft-shell clams & 1 geoduck. The boys (Andy & Joe) decided to make the clams into EXCELLENT clam chowder for dinner.

But for lunch we headed back to the Rogue Public House for lunch with the whole family this time. It was very yummy.

After lunch was over we headed out to the beach for the first time. It was so warm that we could play in the water and not even get cold.

We ended the day with a trip to watch the movie World War Z after the kiddos were in bed.
