It does happen!

It can snow in Tucson, believe it or not!

After a stormy night, this is what it looked like at 9am this morning in our backyard. It was 100% gone by 10am. Still cool to see, even though it was only on the ground for a short time.

Lincoln's Ketogenic Lunch

Not sure how he won't starve to death with meals like these.

5gm of scrambled egg
10gm of american cheese
32gm of unsweetened applesauce
75gm of heavy whipping cream (mixed w/ water, to make a 5oz bottle)

It is hard for me to deliberately feed him so litte food, especially after stuffing him to the gills with calorie heavy food for the past 1.5 years. This process is going to do a number on me.

Oh, and for those of you thinking that this looks like a lot of food, please note that this is not a reguar sized plate, but actually a tea saucer.

June's Blanket

Well, I finished June's crib blanket. I really like the way it turned out. June even helped me pick out the litte puff ball details when we were at JoAnn's the other day. I even made a little pillow case for a travel pillow that we have with the extra material.

I had to put my sewing machine away the other day so we could straighten up our living room, so it wil probably be awhile before I get it out again. I am going to finish June's full sized rag quilt for when she makes the move to the big girl bed (probably around her 2nd b-day, or until she can climb out of her crib). I will post pictures when it is done, but for now I think I am on a sewing haitus. We've got other big things coming up & going on in our lives right now! ;)

Roxy's Blanket

Is complete!! Whew!! Got it done before she was born!

Now to get June's crib blanket finished before her B-day in one month!! She seems to love Roxy's crib blanket, so I think she will be happy with her very own. :)

An update

June is 11 months old tomorrow! I can't believe how quickly the past few months have gone. She is almost 20lbs, and is walking everywhere now! She is just an amazing little girl. Full of energy, personality, and mischief. :)

Roxy is 32 weeks along, and no more than about 6-7 weeks from arriving! My, oh my! I am sure my little girls will be running me ragged in no time! We had another growth ultrasound this week, and Roxy is measuring 4.5lbs now! Everything else is looking perfect as well.

Lincoln is still set to start the ketogenic diet at the end of next week. So that has been looming large on the horizon as well. We have been doing some practice meals, and I just don't see how he will survive on the small portion sizes. But we will give it a go for at least a month, and hope that the sacrifices are well worth the gains. Fingers crossed! Also, Lincoln has been enrolled in Tucson Unified School District for the early intervention preschool program "Project ABLE". His assessment will be in April/May, where the therapists and nurse will work with him to determine his goals for the IEP (Individualized Education Plan). After that we will get his placement information so we will know which school he will be attending.

Aside from work and raising our kids, Andy and I are totally engrossed in the house search. We spend a lot of our "spare" time looking at houses, discussing houses, pros & cons of each house in functionality and meeting our needs, as well as the listing price, and then what we actually think the house will go for, in addition to the possibility of becoming landlords of our current house and/or a guest house on a new property. Money matters are so stressful! We are chasing our tails with all of the what ifs, and go around and around trying to predict the future market and value of money. Honestly, this is pretty stressful and has made for a lot of long days and sleepless nights.

So all in all we are fine and healthy, and have a lot of big changes coming up in the next few months!! :)

A New House?

Well we have been dabbling in looking for a new larger house here in Tucson. There are some pretty good deals out there with all of the short sales & foreclosures around. The difficult thing is to find a house that;
1) Is an okay commute time to Andy's work (less than 45min)
2) Is large enough for a rapidly growing family with lots of stuff/hobbies
3) Has nice enough ammenities for the money being spent
4) Is on a nice lot/location with views, space and a kid friendly yard
5) Is in a good school district

Pretty much we are asking for a miracle. But if we are dropping a lot of dough on a house that we plan on spending "forever" in, then we had better be happy with our purchase, right?

Some things we would love,
1) 5 bedrooms or 4 bedrooms with a den/office.
2) one level and no interior steps (for Lincoln's sake)
3) over 2700 sq ft
4) on an acre or more
5) not in a hole (neighbors can't see into the backyard)
6) has a lounge pool (or a pool can be built)
7) has a "shop" or enough land where a shop can be added
8) has a guest house/casita for long term visitors or a place where one can be added
9) open floor plan, living room/dining room/kitchen
10) tall ceilings
11) not too many improvements/cosmetic changes need to be made (although you all know how much we love our DIY home improvement projects)

After going to open houses for the past 3 weekends, and heading out with a realtor a couple of times...our currect favorite home is this one...

Isn't it pretty?? ;)

It comes the closest to what we want, so far. Large, spacious bedrooms, lots of storage options and bonus rooms, nice counters/cabinets/bathroom and flooring. BUT, it does not have a shop, a casita, the lvrm/dnrm/kit set up is not perfect, and the backyard as it is, is small and needs several changes (removing prickly pear, adding pool, adding kid area), and the lvrm needs larger windows and a few other cosmetic changes to suit our style. A couple of things that are good, we think...is it is a foreclosure home, so we might be able to get a great deal. The lot next door is empty, and if the owner is willing (big if, as we have not looking into this at all) we would consider buying that to build Andy's shop & possibly a guest house. So there are things that we like and things that we don't like. We are just trying to decide if we could changes these things, and at what price we would be willing to try to make this house perfect.

But, we just started our search, and we know there are many other homes in Tucson that may fit our needs even better. So we are keeping an open mind for now. In the meantime, we dream... :)

Sewing Project

I don't tink I have showed you guys my sewing projects yet. My sewing macine has been living on our dining room table since Thanksgiving. My first project was sewing these crib bumpers. The fabric was bought with gender neutrality in mind. After we found out that baby #3 is a girl I gave these bumpers to June & and am going to move her original crib set to Roxy's crib.

Check out my handy-work! I am pretty pleased with them. If you look for them, you can see ample mistakes, but from a distance I think they look pretty nice, and will work out perfectly fine.

My next sewing project is a rag quit for June. I have been up to my eyeballs in fabric and quilt squares since getting home from Christmas vacation. Today I just finally finished sewing the last quilt squares together & have pinned all of the rows. I am hoping to have the whole thing finished by her birthday in March (twin+ sized quilt), along with a couple crib-friendly versions from the extra fabric for both girls to use.

I am surprised how hard it can be to sew a straight line sometimes, and am very glad that rag quilts are quite forgiving (hopefully forgiving enough). I am looking forward to showing off the finished product here though!
