Roxy Post

Roxy is doing great! She is still eating & gaining weight like crazy. She is 10lbs, and already too long for some of her newborn footed sleepers. Although, I have decided that I am going to continue to cram her into them for a few more weeks, because I am just not ready to let them go yet!

Her nighttime sleep is hit or miss, but she has been doing better at going back to sleep after wakings. However, she still prefers to sleep for long periods during the daytime though. Oh well, she will grow out of this habit eventually, I am sure.

She had a little eye infection last week that cleared up quickly with antibiotics. She is currently suffering from the severe newborn acne and massive skin molting that seems to plauge all of my newborns from a couple weeks old, until about 3 months old. Hopefully this is not indicative of what their teenage years will be like. ;)

Her are some more recent pictures of her. It is hard to believe, but she seems to have changed so much already!

Inspiration House

The builder told us to look for pictures of homes on the internet that we liked the look of on the exterior. Andy and I looked independently of each other, and both of us came up with the same house! I guess that bodes well, huh?! :)

Here is house. It is HGTV's dream home in New Mexico. Of course our house will not be nearly as grand or large as this, but it is the style we are after. Pretty, huh?

Under Contract!

Well Andy and I bit the bullet and signed a contract with our builder to build a custom home!! We already have a lot and are under contract on that as well. We close on both the home & lot loans mid-May if we can get the financing, insurance, and the appraisal in order before then.

We are excited and nervous! This is such a huge step for us both financially and emotionally. We hope everything goes well, and if it does, we should be moving into our new home for June's 2nd b-day and Roxy's 1st b-day (March/April of next year)!!

Our newest niece

I made a post on Monday talking about how we were waiting for the news of Andy's sister's newest baby. Well after some scheduling mix up at the hospital, the induction was finally started around 4pm on Monday. She delivered a 6lb 18.5in healthy baby girl named Heidi, at 9:22am on 4/19/11! We are thrilled to welcome another family member to our extended family! :)

Roxy's Announcement

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

Roxy is 2 weeks old!

Can you believe it? She is doing really well. Eating, pooping & growing. She is already growing out of some of her newborn clothes!

She finally lost her umbilical cord stump yesterday, so all remainants of her life inside are gone. She is now 100% part of the outside world! Yay!

She also has started to find her voice. She is much quicker to cry now when she is hungry, and prefers sleep-cuddling with mommy over sleeping anywhere else. Of course Lincoln & June (especially June) take exception to that.

I had to take her into the pediatrician on Monday to check out her eyes. Her left eyelid was slightly swollen on Thursday when we went for her newborn checkup, we were told to keep an eye on it. The following day & all through the weekend it got really goopy and there was a lot of discharge. I called about it on Monday, and after taking a look, they prescribed some antibiotic gel. Since we started applying it, her eye is much better, but still a bit goopy. Hoping for a full recovery by early next week.

Here are some pictures of our miniature princess, Roxy-Roo. :)

For Our Daughters

This is goofy & scary, but sweet at the end. :)

Tina Fey's Prayer For Her Daughter

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered, May she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half And stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her
When crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels.

What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen. Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short - a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day - And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever, That she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a *** in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that ***. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back.

“My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen.

A change in plans

Well, my c-section has been moved to today (this afternoon/evening)! Yikes!!

I will update everyone when we get home from the hospital later this week. Send us good thoughts, prayers, well-wishes, and any other positive vibes you can spare. :)

Trying to be brave

But I am very terrified of the c-section coming up on Tuesday. I know tons of ladies have them, and it is very rare to have complications...and yet I also know it is a major surgery, and the potential is there. I know in my head that everything will be okay, but in my heart, I am so scared that something will go wrong.

One day to go...wish us luck & good fortune.
