Hospital Time

Well it looks like we will be admitted to the hospital either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning to first do an EEG and then to begin his ACTH injections. We will most likely be in the hospital for 3 days. I will make sure to post an update when we are home again.

Please, please pray and send good wishes that we come out of this hospital visit healthier than when we went in. Thanks!

My how time flies! :)

What has been going on these past weeks?

Well it looks like the Infantile Spasms have returned. We will be proceding with the ACTH injections as soon as we get insurance approval (it should only take a couple of days). Wish, hope, and pray for us. Wish us luck, hope that this treatment does the trick, and pray for good health and no complications.

Now onto the fun stuff! Andy, Lincoln and I all went to the Renaissance Fair on Valentine's Day. It was pretty fun! We bought Linc as wooden shield with a cool Phoenix hand painted on it. It was mostly my idea, but I couldn't pass them up, they were just too cute. He will have to wait to get the wooden sword next year. I can just picture him running around the house slaying bad guys. :)

Then the next day we took Linc on his first off-roading Jeep trip. I was pretty paranoid, but he did great. Not sure if he liked it much, but he did manage to fall asleep on the trail...amazing!

Here are Linc and I at the pretty little waterfall that Andy took us to while we were Jeeping. We had a nice little picnic lunch by the water. Linc thought that the water was pretty neat. Andy and I realized that this was the first time that Linc had seem real water (not in the bathtub or our fountain)...isn't Arizona grand?

Here is the obligatory 7 month picture with his little turtle for scale. See the turtle hiding under his hand? Silly boy. As for stats, he is probably about 27lbs and 29.5" now. He is exlusively in 12 month, some 18 month, and even some 24 month stuff! Pretty soon we will be moving into the 2T+ range!

A new favorite.

I now have a new favorite picture of Linc. This one was taken today, and everytime I see it it makes me want to kiss that cute little face! Isn't he just the sweetest?!

Total destruction in 12 seconds or less...

We had another EEG on January 30th. This one once again showed seizure activity...which wasn't suprising because he is having visible seizures on a daily basis. Yesterday we got a call from our neurologist. He wants to try increasing the Sabril, and putting him back on the Valproic acid (the med that he was on in the very beginning). The doctor does seem concerned that the Infantile Spasms may return, and he mentioned the possibility of doing the ACTH in the future. Please pray that it does not come to this. It is a very expensive drug, involving hospital stays, and daily injections, with some pretty serious side effects. So we are really hoping that the spasms do not return.

He continues to develop pretty well. He is driven to learn to crawl it seems. Everytime he is on his belly he pops up into 4-point (hands and knees) and starts rocking within a few seconds. He moves his knees in a crawling motion, but his hands are pretty much planted. I am hoping that he learns to move those soon, because he seems to get pretty frustrated that he only moves backward, away from his toys. I am sure that he will get it soon. If anything though, the rocking will make him stronger in his shoulders and thighs.

He has started to grab for toys also. He was pretty behind on this, but has made big improvements in just the past month or so. The occupational therapist said that he was only 1 standard deviation behind average for his age, and the following week he seemed right on for his age. He is continuing to meet with the OT on a weekly basis for the next month, and then every 2 weeks, until we no longer feel that we need her services.

We decided to hold off on the speech therapy until we got his seizures more under control, hopefully this is soon. The OT and PT both felt that he was making good noises for his age though. He just learned a new sound today. It is like a lip smacking/popping sound, very cute!

In other news...

Our countertop project is coming along pretty well. Slowly but surely we are getting things finished. Andy has been pretty busy at work, and we got our hands on Seasons 1-4 of Lost...so we really don't do much but that on the weeknights. We are in the middle of Season 3 now, so we should be getting back to the countertops next week maybe. Here are some pictures.

Last weekend we went to the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. Andy bought me a couple of cool specimens. The black and white one is labeled as Schorl w. Feldspar from Erongo Mountains of Namibia. Not all that rare, but I thought that it looked cool, like a dalmation or something.

This one is a pretty blue/green mineral color with a rust colored base clay material. Very pretty color contrast. The minerals are Adamite and Hemimorphite and come from the El Buho Mine in Oaxaca, Mexico. Both Andy and I agree that this one was very cool looking (much better in person).

Next weekend we are planning on taking a road trip to Apache Junction to visit the Renaissance Fair. It should be fun. I haven't been to one of these since college, and that was just a little one. I guess this one is a pretty big deal. We will see...! It should be a fun Valentine's weekend.
