We got up around 6:30am & were on the road by 8am. We stopped about every 2 hours for snacks, meals, potty & drinks break. It went very very well. We almost ran out of gas just past Blthye, CA. We filled up 19.25gal in our 20gal tank! The line at the gas station was so long, I guess a lot of other people were in similar circumstances. I took these first few pictures at that rest stop/tank armory (?). It was around 2pm & Roxy had finally fallen asleep for a nap.
That night we stopped at a hotel in Bakersfield, CA. We got in around 8pm and went swimming. The kids didn't settle to sleep until almost 11:30pm. That night was pretty rough because it was the first time with all of us in the same room. Lincoln was in the big pack & play and wasn't happy about it. Roxy & June were in a bed together (a queen mattress on the floor). It was their first time sharing a bed & Roxy's first time sleeping in anything without walls.
Day 2
We got up early & made tracks. We were on the road by 9am. We enjoyed our rainy drive up the central valley of California. We spent a lot of time trying to guess which crops we were passing. Here are some pictures of a flock of seagulls at a rest area just north of Mount Shasta. June enjoyed chasing them.
We stopped for the night in Medford, OR. It was a crappy little 2nd floor hotel room right off the freeway next to a Food for Less. We went there to buy some food for the night & lunch the next day. While making food in the hotel room's microwave, we hear a banging on the floor. Then the phone rings. We have a noise complaint. It was 9pm, and I guess we were walking around too much for the guy downstairs. At that point in time my kids had been very good. They was no crying or screaming & very little jumping around. I felt awful shushing them & telling them they couldn't wiggle around after being stuck in the car all day long. About 30min later we got a knock on the door. The front desk lady was there telling us that we had another noise complaint. I kindly told her that we were doing the best we could, and that our kids were being very good. But six people moving around in a room this small were going to make some noise. She said that she was going to try to move the guy downstairs. We heard nothing else about it after that, but we did hurry the kids to bed. We still didn't get to sleep until around 11:30pm. The wind down time for the kids was much faster the second night though.
Day 3
We stayed for the continental breakfast at the hotel. We didn't get out of there until around 10am. Lucky for us we only had to drive a short while until we got to the beach. Knowing this, for my part, it made the last bit of the drive seem to take forever. On our way we stopped for ice cream at Rice Hill (a traditional stopping point for my family on all of our trips south). It started raining on us again after this point. We took the road through Corvallis to Newport. That was the prettiest & rainiest part of our drive -- welcome to the valley!! We arrived at our rental house at around 2:30pm. Lucky for us we could go right in, as the maids had already finished cleaning.

After settling in, while waiting for my family to arrive, we decided to go for a walk. And it gave me a good chance to really play with my new camera!!
