Lincoln Christopher Blatchford

Linc was born at 6:46 pm on July 19th. He weighed 7lbs 8.5 oz and was 19 1/4 inches long.

Tina's contractions started at about 10 am on Saturday. We had a bunch of good contractions, and walked around the block to make them stop or get worse. Fortunately, they got closer together and started lasting longer so Tina decided to go to hospital. We got to the St. Josephs at about noon and got admitted to maternity triage. The nurse came by to check Tina, made a quick call to our OB, and decided that they were going to break her water and kick this delivery into high gear.

We moved down the hall into our delivery room and got Tina hooked up to the monitors. At approximately 1 or 2 in the afternoon the OB came in and broke her water. Without the extra padding in there, the contractions were a lot more painful and Tina got her Epidural. Over the next few hours Tina, our nurse and I waited for Tina to fully dilate. During the process, Tina's whole body began shaking like she was shivering cold. The contractions were really taking it out of her, fortunately, she was numb from the waist down and didn't feel any of it. She was like, "Wow this must really be painful! I'm glad I can't feel it!" By 6 pm Tina was locked and loaded and was given the OK by the OB to start pushing. A half an hour later, Tina was told to stop pushing while the OB finished delivering a baby in the next room over. At about 6:40 the OB came in, had Tina do a couple of pushes and at 6:46 Linc was born.

At first Linc was really purple from having the cord wrapped around his neck, but the nurses took him and he really pinked up while they were cleaning him off. He scored an 8/9 for his APGARs. As Linc came out he inhaled some amniotic fluid so was having a little trouble breathing and clearing the junk from his lungs. To be on the safe side they took Link up to the intensive care unit for monitoring, I went up there with him. At first he was going to have to be up there for 4 hours, but he was doing so well he only had to be there for 1 hour. We went back downstairs to visit with Tina and get Linc a bath.

After a bath, we moved into our Couplet Care room, where we stayed for 2 nights. We learned how to change diapers, and feed him, and other baby stuff. After he got circumcised on Monday afternoon, we got to take him home. Yeah.

Taking care of babies is hard. Pretty much we either feed him, change him, or just let him sleep, the hard part is that we have to do all this half asleep. I hope we get a better sleep routine figured out soon. It's pretty nerve racking, but totally worth it. It's funny how everybody always says that they have the cutest baby. I don't know what they are talking about, because ours its the cutest. They are delusional.

37 week appointment!

Well Dr. B says that I am 5cm dilated and 90% effaced. She told us that she was going to be leaving on Sunday and be gone for a whole week...but then she said that she didn't think that we would make to Sunday even. Since the doctor's appointment I have been having some contractions off and on. We will see if this turns into anything, or if it is another false alarm. :)

Nursery is finished!

Here are some pictures of the finished nursery. My last project was the wall letters covered by the same fabric as the quilt squares. I just finished them this morning after a sleepless night of contractions...which unfortunately went away almost as soon as I got up to start timing them. Oh well, at least maybe this means that we are getting closer to meeting Linc soon!

New Patio Furniture

We pulled the trigger on patio furniture. We it's all wood and we like it a lot. We bought it on clearance so we were glad we waited.

We had a sweet BBQ with some of our friends on the 4th. We cooked 5 racks of pork ribs in the Traeger. 5 1/2 hours on smoke did the trick. Next time, I'm going to smoke them for 6+ hours. It would have been smart to rotate the ribs on the grill. The ones on the back cooked faster than the ones on the front. I didn't use any rubs or marinades, next time I'm going to try a marinate to lock in the moisture a little better. I don't want to say the ribs were dry, but they had a bit of a skin to them.

We went to Baby Doctor today. Tina is 3-4 cm now and the cervix is getting soft. We probably have at least another week. I'm really looking forward to the baby popping out.

35 Week Doctor Appointment

Hey everyone. I just wanted to update you all on the baby stuff. Today we had our 35 week check up. It looks like Linc is finally head down and ready to go. Also, I am now 3cm dilated. The doctor said that I could go at any time, but that I shouldn't count on it. She did say to stick close to home and that she didn't think we would make it to August! This is exciting and terrifying!!
